March Madness Reading Challenge

How about some fun during the month of March?  We are having our own March Madness here at the Hill.  

The top 16 books from our library are going toe to toe in a competition.  Will you vote for your favorite in each bracket?

TIGER 20 Reading Challenge.

  • Read 5 books by October 16, 2015 = ice cream party
  • Read 5 books by December 11, 2015 = special dessert party
  •  Read 5 books by February 13, 2016 = coke float party    
  • Read 20 books by May 13, 2016 = pizza party,Tiger 20 Club Certificate and be entered into a drawing for a BIG PRIZE!

That sounds like fun.  What do I have to do?

Read at least one book from each of the following categories*:
  • Historical Fiction
  • Science Fiction
  • Fantasy
  • Horror
  • Mystery
  • Realistic Fiction
  • Romance or Sports Fiction
  • Humorous Fiction
  • Short Stories
  • Biography
  • Poetry
  • 5 Magazines (which count as 1 book)
  • 3 Non Fiction books from 3 different Dewey categories (100s, 200s, 300s, etc)
  • and 5 books of your choice.
* we will help you with this.

Other Stuff......
All books must be at least 100 pages (except poetry and the nonfiction). NO Graphic Novels will be counted. (Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, etc. books are Graphic Novels. Sorry) NO book that has a movie will be counted except The Giver. Books must be appropriate (on grade level) to be counted. Eighth graders cannot use The Giver,  Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, Among the Hidden  or The Devil's Arithmetic.  Books used for Honors Reading may not be counted.  All books are subject to approval by librarian and/or ELA teacher.

You may record only one book per week. You must read 20 books to be eligible for the BIG PRIZE.

Summer Reading at the Hill

Things to do this summer:

    You'll have a chance to earn Hill Bills to redeem for books or fun prizes each time you complete a review.

    Summer Reading Guidelines
    Write a short book review (50 words or less) online to earn D.R. Hill Library Hill Bills that can be redeemed for books and fun prizes.   Each review will enter you into a grand prize drawing for a $25 VISA Gift Card !

    Hill Bills  can be redeemed for prizes until August 29, 2014.

    How many books do I have to read?

    There is no set number of books to read. Our new D.R. Hill Summer Reading Program rewards you for the number of reviews you write.

    How many D.R. Hill Library Bills can I earn this summer?

    You may earn up to 25 D.R. Hill Library Bills this summer.

    Do I need to turn in a paper list?

    No. Our new registration system keeps your log online. It is paper-free which is good for the environment, and you don't have to worry about losing your list!

    When does the program end?

    The program ends August 15th, 2014.
